Early Years and Education
Akinfemi grew up in Ilesa and was exposed to the rich Yoruba customs and storytelling, which fueled his interest in the performing arts. In pursuit of this interest, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. In 1998, driven by a desire to expand his horizons, Akinfemi moved to Canada. It was a challenging but rewarding move. He worked several jobs while attending film school. His dedication also saw him study Film and Television Production at the Toronto Film School, where he gained comprehensive perspective on both sides of the camera. He was also a resident director and volunteer during this time at the African Theatre Ensemble in Toronto promoting African narratives in the diaspora.

He received two Best Actor GEMINI awards nominations for his compelling performances in “Human Cargo” and “The Border,” underscoring his versatility and depth as an actor. In 2019, he was cast as Goodwin as a series regular on the CBS sitcom “Bob Hearts Abishola,” a character that has resonated with audiences for its authenticity and humor.
